Using Model 5380 Ethernet and Model 5580 Token Ring Routers

Installing the Replacement Router

The router boards can be inserted into or removed from a chassis without
interrupting service to other modules within the System 5000 hub. This ability is
referred to as "hot-swapping."
In order to hot swap a router, make sure the replacement board meets the
following criteria before you insert it into the chassis:
If you reinsert or replace a router in a different slot, you will need to set the
backplane connections through the service port terminal and reconfigure the
router. Refer to Chapter 3, "Initializing and Setting Up the Routers."
If you replace a router module with a different module type, clear the slot with the
Supervisory Module menus. Refer to "Clearing a Slot" in Chapter 3, "Initializing
and Setting Up the Routers."
To insert the replacement router into the chassis, follow the procedure described in
"Installing the Router" earlier in this chapter.

Removing the Memory Card

You may want to change the storage size of the memory card or change the image
and configuration files by replacing a card rather than using TFTP.
To remove and replace a memory card, follow these steps:
1.
