Model 5000AH Slot Assignments

The Model 5000AH chassis contains an ATM backplane and a PPX backplane.
You can install a router into a Model 5000AH chassis in any slot from number 6
through 14. Placing a single router module or multiple router modules in these
slots accesses the PPX backplane. For the best performance, Bay Networks
recommends installing the routers in contiguous slots.
You can install any combination of Model 5380 Ethernet Routers, Model 5580
Token Ring Routers, and Model 5780 ATM Routers.
Figure 2-1 shows the correct placement of System 5000 modules in a Model
5000AH chassis for an ATM network. Model 5780 ATM Routers can only be
installed in slots 6 through 11. Any slot designated for an ATM module can also be
used for a standard Ethernet, token ring, or FDDI module with the appropriate
backplane(s) installed.
Warning: Do not install a Model 5380 Ethernet or Model 5580 Token Ring
router module in Slot 1 or Slot 4 of a Model 5000AH chassis; inserting a
router module into a Model 5000AH chassis slot not designated for these
modules will damage the backplane and the router module.
