Backplane Ring Connections

The Model 5580 Token Ring Router has connection logic to attach the four
interfaces to four of the nine System 5000 backplane rings. You assign three of the
four interfaces to the first three backplane rings. You can steer the fourth interface
between backplane rings 4 or 9, and ring 5. (Ring 5 always extends across the full
width of the backplane.) The ring connection is set through the service port
terminal using the Service Port Diagnostics Menu or through Optivity. Refer to
Chapter 3, "Initializing and Setting Up the Routers," for more information about
backplane ring connections.

Reset Button

The reset button on the router modules is located at the bottom of the front panel
(see Figure 1-6).

Caution: Pressing the reset button causes a power cycle on the router module.
Connection to the backplane is lost and routing activities are temporarily
suspended; net module ports become inactive.
