Specifications and viscosity
Your engine was factory filled with an all
season high quality engine oil that has a vis-
cosity grade of SAE 5W-40. You can use this
oil over all temperature ranges for normal
driving. If you need to add oil between oil
changes use any high quality synthetic-
based oil with correct specifications. If en-
gine oil viscosity grade SAE 5W-40 is not
available, you can also use SAE 5W-30.
To assure t hat the oil you use is of the high-
est quality requ ired by your vehicle the fol-
lowing terms must appear on the oil
con-f
tainer singly or in combination with other
designations:
Gasoline engine
- VW 502 00 or VW500 00 or VW501 01
- ACEA A2 or ACEA A3
- API Service SJ
Diesel engine
- vw
505 01

Diesel engine that expressly con-
forms to Volkswagen Oil Standard
505 01 can cause engine failure on
the highway that can ca use a crash

and serious persona l injury.
• Never use a ny amount of engine
oil in the Diese l e ngine that does
not conform to Volkswagen Oil
Standard 505 01.
• Always carry with you an extra
quart (liter) of engine oil that con-
forms to Volkswage n Oil Sta ndard
505 01 in c ase you must top off the
oil while on the road.
