Starting t
h
e Diesel engine after
you have driven until the fuel tank
was empty and then refueled again
If you
have driven
your
vehicle w ith
Diesel
engine until the fuel
tank
was almost
com-
pletely empty, and then
refueled,
it may
take a little longer- up
to
one minute -to
start your engine. This
is
because air got
into
the
fuel
line and must be bled
out
be-
fore the engine wil
l
start.
CONTROLS AND
EQUIPMENT
Stopping engine
Do not stop the engine immediately
after hard or extended driving. Keep
engine running for about two min-
utes
to
prevent
excessive
heat
build-up.

WARNING
Before you check anything in
the engine compartment, stop the
engine and let it cool down. Hot
components can burn skin on con-
tact.
Never touch the radiator fan, it
is temperature controlled and can
switch on suddenly
-
even when
the ignition is off.
Always heed all WARNINGS on
page 124.
Note
The ignition should not be switched
off as long as the vehicle is still mov-
ing with a gear engaged. Otherwise
fuel could get into the catalytic con-
verter and cause damage.
