Any faults in the engine management sys-
tem of the Diesel engines which occur
w hile driving wil l be indicated by a flashing
warning lamp- the engine must be checked
by a Volkswagen dealer as soon as possible.
5 - Electronic power
control EPC
If a malfunction in the engine electronics
should occur. the EPC indicator light will
blink. The engine control automatically
switches to a back-up program. You w ill no-
tice. however, a reduction in engine power.
Please contact an authorized VOLKS-
WAGEN dealer as soon as possible.
The indicator light illuminates when the igni-
tion is switched on and goes out again after
about 2 seconds.
The light will start flashing when the vehicle
is moving if the Electronic Stability Program
(ESP) is activated.
The warning light will light up continuously
if the system is switched off manually, or if
a malfunction should occur - see page 48.
Since the ESP operates together with the
Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). the ESP
warning light will also come on if a fault
should occur in the ABS.
