Generator

This
light illuminates
when
the
ignition
is
turned on and
turns
off after the engine is
started. If
the light does
not
turn off
after
start
ing
and
revving up
t
he engine
momen-
tarily or
illuminates
wh ile driving, there may
be a
malfunction
in the electrical system, or
the belts
driving the
alternator
may
be
loose
or broken.

the
warning
illuminates

while driving, stop the vehicle
and turn off the engine. Inspect the
belts.

If the belt for the generator is
broken
or
loose, you can still
drive
to the nearest
au-
thorized VOLKSWAGEN dealer, since the
engine coolant
pump is driven
by a
separate
belt.
However,
since the battery w ill start
to
discharge,
you should
switch off
all
unnec-
essary
electrical
equipment.

Safety belts
~
Your veh
icle has
a w arning system for
the
driver to remind you about the importance
of buckling-up.
After the ignition
is
switched
on. the warn-
ing tone wi
ll
come on for about
6
seconds
along with a wa
rr
1iny
light
in
the
instrument
cluster
if
the
driver has
not fastened his or
her safety belt. As soon as the
driver
has
fastened
his or her belt, the warning tone
will stop and the warning
light
will go out.
CONTROLS
A
ND EQUIPMENT
If
the driver has not buckled-up
within
about
24 seconds after the warn
ing tone has
stopped,
the
warning
tone
will sound again
for
about 6 seconds.
The
warning
tone
will
sound
repeatedly
for
about 6 seconds at
24 second intervals until the driver has
buckled-up.
The
safety belt warning
system
~~
act1ve for about 5 minutes and during this
t1me the warning
light
in the instrument
cluster will stay on.
Fasten your safety belt now and
make sure that your passengers also
properly put on their safety
belts.

Engine coolant

This light illuminates for a few seconds just
as a functional check when you switch on
the
ignition.
If the light does not turn off after-
wa rds, or starts to blink while you
are driving, either the coolant tem-
perature is too high, or the coolant
level is too low.

tance off the road, stop the en-
gine, depress the emergency flasher
switch, turn off the engine and let it
cool down
.
