wise, there may be consequences under civil, crim-
inal or public law. All manufacturers are responsi-
ble for the products that they have manufactured.
Manufacturers of attachments, add-on equipment,
installations and conversions must guarantee com-
pliance with Directive 2001/95/EC on general
product safety.
Mercedes-Benz recommends the following proce-
dure for safety reasons:
Do not make any other changes to the vehicle.

Acceptance tests performed by public test bodies
or o cial approvals do not rule out safety risks.

Conversions or changes to the vehicle can pre-
vent systems or components from functioning
properly and/or jeopardize the vehicle's
operational safety.
Always have conversions or changes to

the vehicle carried out at a quali ed
workshop.
If you intend to make changes to your vehicle,
Mercedes-Benz strongly recommends that you
contact the dealer. They will give you all the infor-
mation you need. There may be a charge for this
service.
If body manufacturers and dealers make modi ca-
tions that a ect the nal inspection of the engine,
vehicle or equipment, they must accept sole
responsibility for the vehicle. This also applies to
marking and documenting the vehicle parts a ec-
ted by the changes that they make.
You are responsible for ensuring and providing evi-
dence that the following conditions are met:
The vehicle complies with all relevant stand-

ards and regulations that are a ected by the
modi cation.
The modi ed vehicle still meets the vehicle
R
safety standards and emissions laws and regu-
lations.
The modi cation does not impair the safety of
R
the vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz is not responsible for the nal
inspection, product liability or warranty claims
resulting from modi cation. This applies to the fol-
lowing points:
The modi ed components or systems
R
The resultant violation of emissions laws and
R
regulations or vehicle safety standards
All consequences resulting from the modi ed,
R
less safe or even faulty vehicle
Mercedes-Benz accepts no responsibility as nal
manufacturer or for the resultant product liability.

Even seemingly minor changes to the vehicle, such
as attaching a radiator grille in winter, are not per-
mitted. Do not cover the radiator. Do not use any
thermal mats, insect protection covers etc.
Otherwise, the values of the vehicle's diagnostic
system will be distorted. Some of these values are
prescribed by law and must be correct at all times.

Without a partition, vehicles that are registered as
commercial vehicles (N1) do not ful l ISO 27956,
which describes the equipment for properly secur-
ing loads in delivery vehicles. If the vehicle is used
to transport goods, retro tting the partition is
strongly recommended, as properly securing the
load in vehicles without a partition will always be a
complex operation.

These Operating Instructions describe all models,
as well as standard and optional equipment of your
vehicle that was available at the time of going to
press. Country-speci c di erences are possible.
Note that your vehicle may not be equipped with
all functions described. This is also the case for
systems and functions relevant to safety. There-
fore, the equipment on your vehicle may di er
from that in the descriptions and illustrations.
The original purchase agreement documentation
for your vehicle contains a list of all the systems in
your vehicle.
Should you have any questions concerning equip-
ment and operation, consult an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
The Operating Instructions and Maintenance Book-
let are important documents and should be kept in
the vehicle.
