ARNING Risk of burns when opening the
hood
If you open the hood in the event of an over-
heated engine or re in the engine compart-
ment, the following situations may occur:
You may come into contact with hot gases.

You may come into contact with other

Before opening the hood, allow the

engine to cool down.
In the event of a re in the engine com-

partment, keep the hood closed and call
the re service.
In vehicles without steering-wheel buttons, you can
show the coolant temperature on the display
(
page 140).

In vehicles with steering-wheel buttons, there is an
analog coolant temperature display on the instru-
ment cluster's tachometer.
During normal driving and if the coolant level is
correct, the display is permitted to rise to the fol-
lowing temperature:
Vehicles with front-wheel drive: up to 230°F

Vehicles with rear-wheel drive: up to 248°F

mation systems and communications
equipment
If you operate information systems and com-
munication devices integrated in the vehicle
when driving, you could be distracted from the
tra c situation. This could also cause you to
lose control of the vehicle.
Only operate this equipment when the

tra c situation permits.
If you cannot be sure of this, stop the

vehicle whilst paying attention to road
and tra c conditions and operate the
equipment with the vehicle stationary.

You must observe the legal requirements for the
country in which you are currently driving when
operating the on-board computer.

If you turn the key to position 1 in the ignition
lock, the on-board computer will be activated.
If you remove the key, then quickly re-insert it and
turn it to position 1, the on-board computer and
instrument cluster will not be activated.
