Electrostatic Discharge Protection

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) damages or destroys electronic
components (the possibility of unseen damage caused by ESD is
present whenever transported, stored, or while the instrument is in
use).
This product contains components that are easily damaged by
electrostatic discharge. To help reduce the possibility of ESD
damage that can occur while using test equipment, follow these
guidelines:
1
Before connecting any coaxial cable to the spectrum analyzer
connector for the first time each day, momentarily short the center
and outer conductors of the cable together to eliminate any
potential electrostatic charges that may exist.
2
Personnel should be grounded with an approved type, 1 MW
resistor-isolated ESD wrist-strap before touching the center pin of
any connector, and before removing any assembly from the
spectrum analyzer.
3
Be sure that all instruments are properly earth grounded to prevent
build-up of static charges.
For more information about ESD and how to prevent ESD damage,
contact the Electrostatic Discharge Association
(http://www.esda.org). The ESD standards developed by this
agency are sanctioned by the American National Standards
Institute (ANSI).
