Hardware Installation and
Cabling Information
This chapter provides general instructions for installing the Smart Array 221
Controller in Compaq ProLiant servers. Refer to your server installation guide
and the Compaq Array 221 Controller Quick Hardware Installation Poster for
more specific instructions.
Tools Needed
The following tools may be needed for installation of the Smart Array 221
Controller into your server:
Torx T-15 screwdriver
3/16" flat-blade screwdriver
3/16" nutdriver
Preparing the Server

WARNING: Some Compaq ProLiant Servers are capable of
producing energy levels that are considered hazardous. To reduce
the risk of personal injury:
Do not attempt to defeat the safety interlocks that prevent
access to hazardous energy.
Do not install or repair accessories and options inside
interlocked areas of the system.
Installation and repair should be performed only by
individuals who are qualified in servicing computer
equipment and trained in the hazards associated with
products containing hazardous energy levels.
