    Updating the Firmware The ROMs on all Compaq servers and most Compaq options can be updated easily. This is done by flashing the ROM using a special Compaq utility called ROMPaq, which replaces the existing contents of the ROM with another version stored in a disk file.
  • Page 30: Materials Needed

    Three to five blank diskette (for System ROMPaq) or 10-15 blank diskettes (for Option ROMPaq) Access to a server or workstation with a bootable CD-ROM drive. This may be the system in which you are installing the Smart Array 221 Controller. Creating Diskettes To create ROMPaq diskettes: Boot the server from the Compaq SmartStart and Support Software CD.

    Compaq recommends that you run the latest System ROMPaq on all servers when installing a new Smart Array 221 Controller. If you purchased your server with the Smart Array 221 Controller already installed, you do not need to run System ROMPaq at the time of server installation.

    System ROMPaq Utility. Remove the System ROMPaq diskette and reboot the server by cycling the power (cold boot). If you have not installed your new Smart Array 221 Controller, you can do so at this time. Running Options ROMPaq Options ROMPaq is used to update the firmware on Compaq options.
