Adding Storage Capacity

The Smart Array 221 Controller allows the configuration of one or more
separate logical drives into a single drive array. Also there can be more than one
array controlled by a Smart Array 221 Controller board. To create the room for
the additional arrays and logical drives, more physical drives must be added.
See Figure C-9.

Figure C-9. Adding physical drives
Simply add more physical drives either internally or to a ProLiant Storage
System connected to the Smart Array 221 Controller. Start the Array
Configuration Utility to configure the new drives into another array (or arrays)
and logical drives. You must then reboot to utilize the added storage capacity.
See Figure C-10.
It is not necessary for all logical drives in an array to be the same size or even
have the same fault tolerant configuration. Each logical drive is treated as a
separate entity no matter how many physical drives it crosses. Each may be
configured as best suits your needs.
It is important to remember that all physical drives in an array should be the
same size (capacity). This is because each drive contains an equal portion of one
or more logical drives and the portion sizes can only equal the size of the
smallest drive.
