MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
Check if the throttle cable is adjusted
correctly by turning handlebar fully
right then fully left. If the engine RPM
increases, readjust the throttle lever
free play.

Spark Plug

Spark Plug Removal
WARNING
Unless otherwise indicated, al-
ways turn ignition switch to the
OFF position before performing
any maintenance or repair on elec-
trical system.
CAUTION Always wear safety
goggles when using pressurized air.
Remove LH side panel.
Unplug the spark plug cable.
Clean the spark plug and cylinder head
with pressurized air if possible.
Unscrew spark plug completely then
remove it.

Spark Plug Installation
Prior to installation make sure that
contact surfaces of cylinder head and
spark plug are free of grime.
Using a feeler gauge, set the spark
plug gap between 0.7 mm to 0.8 mm
(.028 in to .031 in).

Apply a small amount of anti-seize lu-
bricant over spark plug threads to pre-
vent a possible seizure.
Screw spark plug into cylinder head by
hand and tighten with a torque wrench
and a proper socket.
SPARK PLUG TORQUE
20 N•m ± 2.4 N•m (15 lbf•ft ± 2 lbf•ft)

Battery

WARNING
Unless otherwise indicated, al-
ways turn ignition switch to the
OFF position before performing
any maintenance or repair on elec-
trical system.
CAUTION Never charge a bat-
tery while installed in vehicle.
These vehicles are equipped with a
VRLA battery (Valve Regulated Lead
Acid). It is a maintenance-free type
battery, there is no need to add water
to adjust electrolyte level.
NOTICE
Never remove the battery
sealing cap.
Battery Removal
CAUTION Always disconnect
BLACK (-) battery cable first.
Disconnect BLACK (-) battery cable.
Disconnect RED (+) battery cable.
Remove the holding strap then pull the
battery out of frame.
