A mechanical spring-loaded brake fitted to the motor (disk or spring-applied
brake) brakes the rotation of the motor shaft when the brake coil's supply
voltage is switched off. If quick brake engagement times are required, DC air
solenoids are used. In this case, the brake is supplied with AC power through
a functional rectifier built into the motor.
RAMO5 and RASP5 Rapid Link modules feature a faster internal electronic
switch for powering and actuating the external motor brake. It is connected
using pins 4 and 6 of the motor feeder socket. The highest permissible con-
tinuous holding current is 0.6 A. For releasing the brake, up to 6 A are avail-
able for up to 120 ms.

The brake is actuated:
With RAMO5 automatically with the start signal, in automatic and man-
ual modes,
With RASP5 via the frequency converter.
