Flywheel Inspection and Repair
Inspect the flywheel for the following conditions:
Miissing, broken or cracked fins.
Oval shaped pawl pin holes.
Broken, damaged or missing springs, pawls or
pawl pins. Freedom of movement of pawls.
Evidence that the Starter Pawl Repair Kit has
been installed (holes in bottom of the flywheel
below pawl pins).Engine
Other signs of fatigue, wear or damage to the
flywheel.
Starter Pawl Repair Kit, P/N 180142, is available to
repair the flywheel. This kit contains 2 pawl pins
(oversized*), two (2) pawl springs, and two (2)
pawls. To install the kit, an arbor press, 0.228 inch
(5.79 mm) drill and drill press are required. Installa-
tion instructions are provided in the kit.
NOTE: The pawl pins in this kit are oversized.
Once this kit is installed, the flywheel cannot be re-
paired a second time.
