12.3.9 Adjusting the air flap rod

The air flap opens with a delay in
relation to the throttle shutter in
order to ensure that optimum
combustion values are achieved.
If the air flap opens too soon, the
mixture will be too lean and the
engine overheats or is inadequately
lubricated.
– Remove the carburetor,

: Turn the air flap shaft (2)
anticlockwise until the air flap (1)
is closed.

– Push the complete rod with leg
spring into place.
: Slide the upper lever (1) onto the
throttle shutter shaft and the
lower lever (2) onto the air flap
shaft.
When fitting the upper lever, ensure
that the flat sides in the lever and
throttle shaft are lined up with one
another.
Do not push the lower lever (2) onto
the ribbed part of the air flap shaft.

: Insert the screw (arrow) and
tighten it down.

: Slide the test flange
4224 890 1200 with shoulder (1)
into the hole in the throttle
shutter.
The throttle shutter opens slightly as
the test flange is fitted, moving the
lever (2) of the throttle shutter into a
horizontal position.
: Fit two screws M5x80 (arrows) to
secure the test flange (1).
