The rear panel Ethernet connector (figure A-1) on the matrix
switcher BME 0 can be connected to the Ethernet LAN or
WAN. This connection makes SIS control of the switcher
possible using a computer connected to the same LAN.

The Ethernet cable can be terminated as a straight-through cable or a crossover
cable and must be properly terminated for your application (figure A-1).

Subnetting — A Primer
It is not the purpose of this manual to describe TCP/IP protocol in detail.
However, some understanding of TCP/IP subnetting (a subnet is a subset of a
network — a set of IP devices that have portions of their IP addresses in common)
is necessary in order to understand the interaction of the Matrix 12800 system
components (consisting of the Matrix 12800 and the FPC 5000) and the system's
interaction with the mail server gateway. To understand subnetting at the level
required to install and operate the Matrix 12800 system, you must understand the
concepts of a gateway, local and remote devices, IP addresses and subfields, and
subnet masks and subfields.

Crossover cable — Direct connection between the computer and BME 0 of
the Matrix 12800 switcher.
Patch (straight) cable — Connection between the Ethernet hub and BME 0 of
the Matrix 12800 switcher.
