Procedure for use with Double-Channel Mode (= without Coding Plug)
(Detailed information: see 647G461 instructions for use)
In the PAULA software, select the Transcarpal Hand with dual-channel control. Position the
indicator to 3.5 on the scale. The switch's Adjustment Control 2 is already pre-set to the corre-
sponding value (Fig. 5).
Now the electrode has to be adjusted so that the second threshold – identified in the PAULA soft-
ware by the black line at 3.5 – is barely reached with the muscle signal (Fig. 4). The Transcarpal
Hand closes.
With a quick-and-strong muscle signal, a point above the threshold must be reached in order for
the Transcarpal Hand to open.
If the muscle signal is too slow or too weak, use the adjustment control 2 to change the threshold
(Fig. 5).
9 Battery management
Use only fully-charged batteries to operate the Transcarpal Hand. Always keep a charged, back-
up Ottobock battery available as a replacement. An intelligent "battery manager" alerts the patient
when the voltage is low: the Hand will become slower and the gripping force will decrease. At the
same time, the battery is protected against harmful total discharge.
We recommend powering the Transcarpal Hand with the 757B20/21 EnergyPack or 757B35=*
MyoEnergy Integral to benefit from the Hand's full capacity over an extended period of time. Subject
to functional limitations, the transcarpal hand can be operated with the 757B15 X-ChangePack. For
detailed instructions on the use of the batteries see the information leaflet included in the batteries.
Attention:
As soon as the Transcarpal Hand recognizes a fully charged 757B20/757B21 EnergyPack
or 757B35=* MyoEnergy Integral, it automatically switches to Li-Ion battery mode. Sub-
sequently, only this technology should be used to operate the system. If an Ottobock
757B15 X-ChangePack is used anyway, its capacity can no longer be fully utilised. The
757T13 Ottobock MyoSelect can be used, however, to reset the Transcarpal Hand
control for use with the X-ChangePack.
For reasons of operational safety and reliability, use only 757B20, 757B21, 757B35=*
or 757B15 Ottobock Batteries.
Upon delivery, the Transcarpal Hand is set for use with NiMH batteries.
10 Cleaning and Care
Clean the product with a damp, soft cloth and mild soap (e.g. Ottobock 453H10=1 Derma
Clean) when needed. Make sure the product is not damaged and that no liquid can penetrate
into system components.
Then, dry the prosthesis component with a soft cloth.
11 Disposal
These products may not be disposed of with household waste in some jurisdictions.
Disposal that is not in accordance with the regulations of your country may have a detri-
mental impact on health and the environment. Please observe the information provided
by the responsible authorities in your country regarding return and collection processes.
