Pulse Mode

Activation of pulse operation starts a cycle of a controlled fluctuation of cushion airflow causing the cushion volumes in
alternating cushions (starting in the fourth cushion from the head end) to vary and the amount of support provided the patient
to fluctuate. A combination of the selected cycle time and the degree of airflow fluctuation between full inflate and deflate
determines pulse action. Fluctuation limits are established using the air adjust feature prior to activating pulse operation.
Two ranges of airflow differential (Pulse modes) provided on the KinAir MedSurg Pulse System: LOW and HIGH:
When LOW PULSE mode is selected, the differential of airflow and cushion volume is moderate; therefore, the pulsation
the patient experiences is modest.
When HIGH PULSE mode is selected, the differential of airflow and cushion volume is 50% more than LOW PULSE
mode; therefore, the pulsation the patient experiences is increased.
PULSE CYCLE
Each pulse cycle begins at EVEN PAUSE. One bargraph displays the inflate phase and one bargraph displays the deflate
phase. The bargraph representing the inflating cushions will progress to PAUSE HIGH while the other bargraph will progress
to LOW PAUSE. The pulsation cycle will then reverse and return to EVEN PAUSE. The process is then reversed with the
bargraph that originally went to HIGH PAUSE going to LOW PAUSE and vice versa. The displays will then return to EVEN
PAUSE, thus completing one full cycle.
NOTE: Bargraph indicators on the Main Control Panel display progress in the pulse cycle.
CYCLE TIMES
Cycle times can be adjusted between 2.50 minutes and 30 minutes. A bargraph displays the selected cycle time. Pressing the
CYCLE TIME button changes the setting. Should the desired cycle time be passed, continue pressing the CYCLE TIME
button until the bargraph display returns to the bottom and then set the desired time.
PULSE ACTIVATION
Pulse operation is activated by pressing the PULSE button on the
Auxiliary Control Panel:
The LED indicator is lit when pulse operation is active
The LED indicator is unlit when pulse operation is inactive.
Pulse mode is chosen by:
1.
pressing either the LOW or HIGH button on the Auxiliary Control
Panel or by
2.
pressing either the LOW PULSE or HIGH PULSE button on the
Main Control Panel.
NOTE: LED indicators on the LOW PULSE or HIGH PULSE buttons
on the Main Control Panel indicate which pulse mode is
active.
A steady light indicates active pulse mode.
A flashing light indicates inactive pulse mode.
