    When selecting a standard mattress, ensure the distance between top of side rails (if used) and top of mattress (without compression) is at least 8.66 in (220 mm) to help prevent inadvertent bed exit or falls. Consider individual patient size, position relative to the top of the side rail) and patient condition in assessing fall risk.
  • Page 8 NOTE: Bed Exit Alarm is triggered by dramatic weight reduction and may not alarm if patient is only partially exited from bed. Monitor patient frequently to guard against patient entrapment and migration. Ambulatory Patient Entrance and Exit - Lower the patient surface completely during assisted patient entrance and exit. Fluids - Avoid spilling fluids on unit controls.

    It is recommended that all chapters of this manual be reviewed prior to product use. Carefully read the Safety Tips section in the Introduction chapter of this manual prior to placing a patient on the KinAir MedSurg Pulse System. NOTE: You may silence the InstaFlate Alarm by pressing ALARM SILENCE.

    Turn INSTAFLATE / MEMORY RETURN knob clockwise to create a firm surface. NOTE: You may silence the InstaFlate Alarm by pressing ALARM SILENCE. Lock brakes on both bed and chair. Lower Side Rails and store them under frame by pushing them in toward the center of unit. Press HEAD UP arrow on Main Control Panel to raise patient support surface to full upright position.

    • The LED indicator is unlit when pulse operation is inactive. Pulse mode is chosen by: ADJUST pressing either the LOW or HIGH button on the Auxiliary Control Panel or by pressing either the LOW PULSE or HIGH PULSE button on the HIGH main control panel.
  • Page 14 If required, manually adjust air pressures. Allow time for cushions to reach new air pressures. Verify air pressures during cycle with hand check after each adjustment. If Pulse Mode is active, observe at least one complete pulse cycle. NOTE: One complete cycle starts at EVEN PAUSE and consists of progress to HIGH PAUSE, return to EVEN PAUSE, progress to LOW PAUSE and return to EVEN PAUSE.

    It is recommended that all chapters of this manual be reviewed prior to product use. Carefully read the Safety Tips section in the Introduction chapter of this manual prior to performing nursing care for a patient on the KinAir MedSurg Pulse System.

    PATIENT POSITIONING Trendelenburg / Reverse Trendelenburg Use Trendelenburg / Reverse Trendelenburg to adjust patient support surface from 8° Trendelenburg to 8° Reverse Trendelenburg. NOTE: Trendelenburg positioning can be used to prevent patient migration. Prior to activating Trendelenburg or Reverse Trendelenburg, assess the security of all invasive lines and tubes to accommodate the desired angle of articulation and minimize the risk of binding, disconnecting or dislodging;...

    NOTE: Power is supplied to the bed by an Under Bed Inverter (UBI). With fully recharged batteries, the UBI will function for up to 1 hour if the bed is set into one blower mode, the heater is off and minimal use is made of the ArjoHuntleigh KinAir MedSurg Pulse frame functions.

    Dry Cover Sheet with towel. Remaining moisture will evaporate rapidly with air flow. Position patient on mattress, verifying that top of shoulder is between second and third cushions. Raise and lock Side Rails, if required. (See related Risks and Precautions and Safety Tips sections in the Introduction chapter of this manual.) Turn INSTAFLATE / MEMORY RETURN knob counterclockwise to restore preset cushion pressure settings.
  • Page 19: Patient Repositioning Using Dri-Flo Breathable Underpads

    Place the KinAir MedSurg Pulse Cover Sheet over patient support surface. Use Breathable Underpads. NOTE: ArjoHuntleigh’s Dri-Flo Breathable Underpads are recommended for incontinent patients. Do not use plastic-backed underpads. Plastic may block moisture vapor transmission and air flow from overlay. Dri-Flo Breathable Underpads are absorbent and permit more air flow.

    DAILY CARE AND CLEANING OF THE KINAIR MEDSURG PULSE SYSTEM NOTE: The patient need not be removed from the KinAir MedSurg Pulse System when performing daily cleaning procedures. The patient may be bathed as the patient support surface is being cleaned.

    WEEKLY CARE AND CLEANING OF THE KINAIR MEDSURG PULSE SYSTEM In addition to daily care and cleaning, the KinAir MedSurg Pulse Cover Sheet should be replaced weekly or more often, as needed. Excessively soiled mattress components and Cover Sheets should be replaced and laundered. Contact your ArjoHuntleigh representative for local Infection Control procedures.

    OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS This chapter contains instructions for setting and adjusting functions of the KinAir MedSurg Pulse System. It is recommended that all chapters of this manual be reviewed before operating the bed. Carefully read the Contraindications, Risks and Precautions and Safety Tips sections in the Introduction Chapter, as well as Patient Placement chapter of this manual prior to operating the KinAir MedSurg Pulse System.

    A combination of the selected cycle time and the degree of airflow fluctuation between full inflate and deflate determines pulse action. Fluctuation limits are established using the air adjust feature prior to activating pulse operation.     One Blower Operation Use One Blower operation while performing maintenance procedures or under other special circumstances, such as when softer mattress pressures are required. Press ONE BLOWER button to turn blower ON / OFF. NOTE: LED displays One Blower operation status and toggles ON and OFF. BLOWER NOTE: With each subsequent illumination of the LED on the ONE BLOWER button, the Blower affected will alternate.

    Alarm Silence Use the Alarm Silence button to silence the following alarm conditions: NOTE: An ALARM SILENCE button is also located on the Main Control Panel. ALARM SILENCE • SEAT DEFLATE - Alarm will sound when Seat Deflate has been activated for longer than 12.50 minutes.

    SCALE CONTROL PANEL WEIGH WEIGH EXIT DELAY DELAY ALARM HOLD HOLD ZERO WEIGH Press to momentarily delay weighing and display. DELAY - Press A, B, or C to select the option shown in the A, B, C - bottom row of the display, above each button. Press to hold (save) displayed weight while HOLD - weight changes are being made to bed.

    Exit Alarm Use Exit Alarm button to activate / deactivate patient Exit Alarm. An audible alarm will sound if a 10% or more decrease in patient weight is detected. On the Scale Control Panel, press EXIT ALARM button to turn Exit Alarm either ON or OFF. One of the displays shown at right will appear to reflect the current status of the Exit Alarm.

    BED MOTION CONTROL PANEL DOWN Use the Bed Motion Control Panel to adjust the height and angle of the patient support surface and frame, as well as, set Lockouts for Head, Knee Gatch, Trendelenburg and Reverse Trendelenburg angles and Bed Height. The Bed Motion Control Panel is located on the frame below the litter surface at the unit’s foot end.
