Chapter 4: Operation and Administration
This chapter covers:
1. Indicators and Controls
2. Startup and Shutdown
3. Troubleshooting System Initialization
Introduction to MPS Operating Procedures
This chapter contains the most common procedures and considerations for daily operation of the
MPS. For information on Media Processing System (MPS) operation, refer to the MPS System
Operator's Guide.
Almost all administrative operations are conducted from the MPS Manager workstation that runs the
MPS Manager suite of tools. The Application Manager (APPMAN) is used to:
• assign applications to phone lines and start applications
• terminate applications and unassign them from phone lines
• configure an application run-time environment
• control the default line-start order during reboot.
MPS Indicators and Controls
Front Control Panel
The cabinet contains a front control panel (FCP) for each VRC in the system. The FCP provides
separate power controls and status and alarm indicators for each TMS (by chassis slot). The FCP is
shown in the following illustration. The indicators and controls for each chassis slot are explained in
the table that follows.
