Customer-Supplied USB Modem

USB modems are not supported on SUN platforms. Windows-based servers do not provide
sufficient power to source most non-powered external USB modems. Where a USB modem is
required, the commercially available powered USB mode must be viable. Avaya has not tested nor
does it endorse any particular model of powered USB modem.
If a powered USB modem is not available, Avaya successfully tested a powered USB hub (for
example, Belkin Model # F5U021 Four Port Hub or equivalent) along with a non-powered USB
Modem (for example, MultiTech Model # MT5634ZBA-USB-V92 V.92 Data/Fax World Modem or
equivalent).

Software Installation

The software packages for the MPS 1000 are pre installed at the factory. Information for installing
additional MPS 1000 packages is in the online documentation.

MPS Manager Workstation Installation

The MPS Manager workstation provides a graphical management environment that integrates the
TMS in the MPS 1000 installation into a single system view. In most cases, a single MPS Manager
workstation is used to control and administer an entire set of MPS 1000 systems. In some cases,
more than one MPS Manager workstation can be configured for either separate control and
administration domains or to support a duplicated control point. In networked configurations,
regardless of networking arrangements, MPS Manager functions as a separate workstation.
Note:
A stand-alone MPS Manager workstation is a recommended upgrade for systems where the
administrative interface is not in the same place as the MPS 1000. Where the administrative
station is not in the same place as the application processor controlling the MPS 1000, the
keyboard, monitor, and mouse are replaced with an additional Ethernet LAN for connecting to a
remote workstation.
Whenever resources permit, install and use a dedicated workstation to perform MPS Manager
functions. A separate workstation increases configuration flexibility where and network management
and administration are performed from a site remote from the MPS 1000 system.
