Installing Hardware and Connectivity
Cascade Cables for Ethernet Switches
All Ethernet Switches require cascade cables for LAN redundancy.
Connecting to Internal Components
ATM Connections
Three basic configurations are available for ATM connections; Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, or
Standalone Cabinets.
SC Simplex Panel
The SC Simplex panel contains 24 SC Simplex connectors, each pair from left to right is equivalent
to one connector in a SC Duplex panel. For example, connectors 1 and 2 are equivalent to
connector 1 of a 12-connector Duplex panel.
SC Duplex Panel
New Systems can have an SC Duplex-type panel that contains twelve SC Duplex- type connectors
labeled 1 through 12.
Cable Polarity
An ATM OC-3 cable assembly has two cables; a transmit (or A) and a receive (or B). To connect
two devices, the transmit and receive cables must be crossed. For example, the transmit from
device A must be connected to the receive of device B. The standard OC-3 SC Duplex cable
provides this crossover by reversing the transmit and receive positions in the connector duplexing
clip.
Because the connectors on one end of the Simplex cable must be removed from the clip to fit into
the Simplex panel, the two connectors installed in the ATM patch panel must be reversed. A red
LED on the NIC 2000 is lit when the cables are not crossed over.
