8.3.2 Operating modes

Basically, there are 2 different operating modes:
 Master operation: Output of measured values
 Slave operation: Bidirectional operation via the BUS
Each operating mode is designed for a specific application case:
The interface is always active in the Master operating mode. The data
is output to one data terminal (terminal or printer); the BUS connection
(up to 31 devices) is possible in Slave operation only.
The Slave operating mode is offered exclusively with the BUS, even if
only a single instrument is present.

8.3.3 Master operation

The Master operation is for applications that have a terminal (program)
or printer, i.e. data is sent continually from the instrument (Master)
during the measuring mode.

8.3.4 Slave operation

The measuring instruments ("Slave") operate together with a control
computer ("Master") according to the Master/Slave principle in this ope-
rating mode. The modules are addressed by the control computer
under their address and execute the commands that are handed over.
To do so, the control computer must also take over the control of the
level converter (send/receive DTR/DSR).
The communication procedure is divided into the command section and
the response section.
