Note: OS/400 V5R2 is the final release to support the Asynchronous Transfer
Mode (ATM) networking technology and ATM adapters. The #5700, #5701,
#2743, or #2760 Gigabit Ethernet or #2838, #2849, or #4838 10/100 Fast
Ethernet with required infrastructure changes to the network as applicable
(switches, routers, etc.) are recommended replacements.
Gigabit Ethernet supports TCP/IP only. Therefore, Systems Network
Architecture (SNA) Traffic requires using ANYNET as SNA over TCP/IP.
10/100 Fast Ethernet supports both SNA and TCP/IP. Although the Fast
Ethernet adapter is limited to Unsheilded Twisted Pair (UTP) cable, an
external transceiver may be used to convert to multimode fiber (compatible
with ATM fiber).
ATM adapters not supported with i5/OS V5R3 include:
– #2811 PCI 25 Mbps UTP ATM IOA
– #2812 PCI 45 Mbps Coax T3/DS3 ATM IOA
– #2815 PCI 155 Mbps UTP OC3 ATM IOA
