To install a simple-swap hard disk drive, complete the following steps:
Step 1.
Read the safety information that begins in "Safety" on page v and "Installation guidelines" on
page 36.
Step 2.
Turn off the server (see "Turning off the server" on page 26) and all attached peripheral devices.
Disconnect all power cords; then, disconnect all external cables as necessary to replace the device.
Step 3.
If installing a new drive, touch the static-protective package that contains the new drive to any
unpainted metal surface on the server; then, remove the drive from the package and place it on
a static-protective surface.
Step 4.
Remove the filler panel from the front of the server.
Step 5.
Gently push the drive assembly into the drive bay until the drive clicks into place.
Step 6.
Install the filler panel.
Step 7.
If you are installing additional simple-swap drives, do so now.
Step 8.
Restart the server. Confirm that it starts correctly and recognizes the newly installed devices, and
make sure that no error LEDs are lit.
Note: If the server is configured for RAID operation using a ServeRAID adapter, you might have to
reconfigure your disk arrays after you install drives. See the ServeRAID adapter documentation for
additional information about RAID operation and complete instructions for using the ServeRAID
adapter.
If you have other devices to install or remove, do so now. Otherwise, go to "Completing the installation"
on page 87.
