Network Operations Overview

Mobile Client on the Network

1. A URL request is made from an end user's mobile PC to
access inappropriate content on the Internet.
2. The Mobile Client installed on the end user's workstation
sends a parallel request to the Web Filter.
3. The Web Filter searches its M86 database for a match to
the request. If a match to the requested URL is found and
the site is disallowed, the Mobile Client software blocks
the connection to the Web server.
NOTE: If using Mobile Client software version 2.0 or higher in a
Macintosh environment, and the Web Filter is configured to use
the "High" HTTPS Filtering Level, Macintosh end users will be
blocked from accessing any HTTPS URL. (See the Filter window
in the WF Global Administrator Section of this User Guide for
information about setting the HTTPS Filtering Level.)

Mobile Server Section

The Mobile Server Section of this portion of the user guide
contains information on how to set up and configure the
WFR server's hardware and Web Filter software to be used
with the Mobile Client.

Initial Setup

Basic requirements for initial network setup are as follows:
• Port 81 must be open on the network for block page
requests
• Port 443 must be open on the network for the Mobile
Client to communicate with the Web Filter.
NOTE: The WFR server can be set up on the WAN network's
DMZ for extra security purposes.
