FAULTS
POSSIBLE CAUSES
Short-circuited
rolor.
Rotor unwelded from commutator.
Broken lield
windings,
or
short-circuited
or
grounded.
Generator
lacks residual magnetism.
Circuit breaker out of selting.
Oxidation
of
circuit breaker
contacts.
REMEDIES
Clean carefully between
rotor
bfades.
Make sure
that
there are
no welding
drops on front
face
and especially
on
back side
of
commutator
ring.
If
so,
re-
move
them. Failing
to
attain a good
resu
lt,
replace rotor.
If
rotor does
not
show any
other fault
,
renew
welding.
Replace
field coi
ls,
unless
grounding is
spotted and
eliminated.
Re-excite generator by
connecting for
an
instant positive
and negative field
wind-
Ing terminals
to positive and negative
battery terminals.
Set circuit breaker accordingly
to
test"
ing data.
Clean
circuit breaker
cont
acts.
