POSSIBLE CAUSES
Brushes don't slide freely in brush
holder.
Ovallzed commutator.
Mica protruding from copper commuta-
tor blades.
Loose brush holders.
Brushes exercise an excessive pressu-
re on commutator.
Unsuitable brushes.
General overload.
Loose brush springs.
Mica protruding from copper.
Loose brush holder.
REMEDIES
Clean brush holder guides or replace
brush holder.
if
necessary.
Turn commutator and remove excess of
mica.
Clean commutator and remove excess
of mica.
Tighten brush holder securing screws
and rivets.
Check springs load to be of the requi-
red value.

Replace brushes, fitting original parts.
Overhaul starter molor.
