Operation

Making Calls

This section explains the basic methods for making a
call.

Making a Call

1.
In stand-by mode (i.e., when you have no active
calls), go off-hook.
2.
Enter the number you want to call.
The number you are dialling is displayed in the
Dial window. When you finish dialling, the call will
be connected.
3.
To end the call, go on-hook.
Pre-dialling
In stand-by mode (i.e., when you have no active calls),
you can start dialling while still on-hook. The Dial
window will appear.
To delete a number you entered, press
To clear the entire number, press
(TRANSFER) or
To connect the call, go off-hook or press
Quick Dialling
If a number has been programmed in the PBX as a
Quick Dial number, you can dial that number by going
off-hook and entering the programmed number.
For details, consult your administrator.
Hot Line
You can configure the phone to automatically dial a
number immediately when you go off-hook. See "Hot
Line (Page 106)".
Speed Dialling
You can dial a number that is registered in the system
speed dial directory or registered in your personal
speed dial directory. For details, see "System Speed
Dialling (Page 110)" and "Personal Speed Dialling
(Page 108)".

Speed Dial Entries (Page 118)".

Operator Call
You can call an extension or a group assigned as the
operator. See "Operator Call (Page 108)".
Usage tips
After you dial, the Calls screen appears. For details,
see "Calls Screen (Page 39)".
Note
If you want to dial a phone number on the
Contacts screen using the dial keys, press
, and then enter the phone number. When
you finish dialling, go off-hook or press
to connect the call.
Calling an Outside Party
You have to seize an outside line before dialling an
outside phone number. The KX-NT400 can seize an
outside line automatically for certain calls.
Automatic seizing
The KX-NT400 can seize an outside line automatically
when a call is made with one of the following operations:
Pre-dialling (Page 65)
Making a Call from the Contact List (Page 66)
Dialling by Using Call Logs (Page 68)
Redialling the Last Number You Dialled (Last
Number Redial) (Page 69)

One-touch Dialling (Page 70)
Making Calls from the Portal (Page 88)
Manual seizing
You have to seize an outside line manually when you
directly enter a phone number with dial keys.
1.
Go off-hook.
2.
Press
/
An idle outside line will be seized.
3.
Enter a phone number with dial keys.
Note
The default automatic line access number

) varies depending on country/area.
You can create an L-CO button on the
KX-NT400. For details, see "Customising the

Usage tips
To seize a specific outside line, in step 2 press the
corresponding CO button on the Feature Key
screen or Calls screen (in Line Buttons mode). For
