6A4-30 ENGINE MECHANICAL (J20 ENGINE)
REMOVAL
1) Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2) Drain engine oil.
3) Drain coolant.
4) Remove oil pan and oil pump strainer referring to "Oil Pan
and Oil Pump Strainer" in this section.
5) Remove cylinder head cover referring to "Cylinder Head
Cover" in this section.
6) Remove timing chain cover referring to "Timing Chain Cover"
in this section.
7) Turn crankshaft to meet the following conditions.
• Key (4) on crankshaft position as shown.
• Arrow mark on idler sprocket (3) points upward vertically.
• The marks on sprockets (1 and 2) match with marks on cylin-
der head.
Note that this step must be followed for reinstallation of timing
chain.
1. Timing marks of intake camshaft timing sprocket
2. Timing marks of exhaust camshaft timing sprocket
3. Arrow mark on idler sprocket
4. Timing marks of crankshaft timing sprocket
8) Remove timing chain tensioner adjuster No.2 (1).
To remove it, slacken 2nd timing chain by turning intake cam-
shaft counterclockwise a little while pushing back pad.
9) Remove intake and exhaust camshaft timing sprocket bolts.
To remove it, fit a spanner to hexagonal part at the center of
camshaft to hold it stationary.
10) Remove camshaft timing sprockets and 2nd timing chain.
1. Intake camshaft timing sprocket
2. Exhaust camshaft timing sprocket
3. Hexagonal part of camshaft
