Test the Platform Overload
System (if equipped)
Genie specifications require that this procedure be
performed every 500 hours or six months,
whichever comes first OR when the machine fails
to lift the maximum rated load.
Testing the platform overload system regularly is
essential to safe machine operation. Continued
use of an improperly operating platform overload
system could result in the system not sensing an
overloaded platform condition. Machine stability
could be compromised resulting in the machine
tipping over.
The platform overload system is designed to detect
an overloaded platform and prevent machine
operation anytime the machine is turned on. When
activated, the system halts all normal boom
operation, giving visual and audible warning to the
operator.
Models equipped with the platform overload option
are provided with additional machine components:
an adjustable spring-loaded platform support
subassembly, a limit switch, an electronic module
which receives the overload signal and interrupts
power, and an audio/visual warning indication to
alert the operator of the overload.
Part No. 218700
Checklist C Procedures
The platform support subassembly utilizes two
load support arms that are opposed in a full
parallelogram link. This isolates platform loads into
a shear or vertical state, which translates into a
compressive load. A spring in the parallelogram
link supports this purely compressive load
regardless of where the load is placed in the
platform.
As weight is added to the platform, the spring will
compress until, when the platform is overloaded,
the lower arm contacts a limit switch and thereby
activating the overload signal. When adjusted
correctly, the platform overload system will
deactivate normal boom operation at platform
capacity.
Note: Perform this procedure with the boom fully
retracted and in the stowed position and with the
machine on a firm, level surface.
1
Remove all weight, tools and equipment from
the platform.
Note: Failure to remove all weight, tools and
accessories from the platform will result in an
inaccurate test.
2
Turn the key switch to ground control and pull
out the red Emergency Stop button to the on
position at both the ground and platform
controls. Start the engine from the ground
controls and level the platform. Do not turn the
engine off.
3
Determine the maximum platform capacity.
Refer to the machine serial plate.
