380 Maintenance and care
Do not open or close the bonnet if there
#
is a person in the bonnet's range of
movement.
& WARNING Risk of injury due to drive
system overheating
If you open the bonnet in the event of an
overheated drive system or fire in the engine
compartment, the following situations may
occur:
You may come into contact with hot
R
gases.
You may come into contact with other
R
escaping hot operating fluids.
In the event of overheating or a fire in
#
the engine compartment, keep the bon‐
net closed and call the fire service.
Allow the overheated drive system to
#
cool down if the engine must be
opened.
& WARNING Risk of injury due to moving
parts
Components in the engine compartment may
continue to run or start unexpectedly even
when the drive system is switched off.
Observe the following if you must open the
bonnet:
Switch off the vehicle.
#
Never touch the danger zones sur‐
#
rounding moving components, e.g. the
rotation area of the fan.
Remove jewellery and watches.
#
Keep items of clothing and hair away
#
from moving parts.
& WARNING Risk of injury from using the
windscreen wipers when the bonnet is
open
If the windscreen wipers start moving when
the bonnet is open, you could be trapped by
the wiper linkage.
Always switch off the windscreen wip‐
#
ers and the vehicle first if you need to
open the bonnet.
Notes on the coolant level
Checking or topping up coolant should be car‐
ried out only by the trained personnel of a quali‐
fied specialist workshop. Access by the cus‐
tomer is not permitted.
To check or top up coolant, use a qualified spe‐
cialist workshop.
& WARNING Risk of scalding from hot
coolant
If you open the cap when the drive system is
at normal operating temperature, you could
be scalded.
Let the drive system cool down before
#
opening the cap.
When opening the cap, wear protective
#
gloves and safety glasses.
