% Traffic signs which have an impact on the
maximum permissible speed, e.g. signs indi‐
cating the beginning or end of dual carriage‐
ways, can also be detected.
If Speed Limit Assist cannot determine the cur‐
rent maximum permissible speed (e.g. due to
missing signs), the following display appears in
the driver's display:
This is displayed continuously if the vehicle is in
a country where Speed Limit Assist is not sup‐
ported. Speed Limit Assist is not available in all
countries.
System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function
particularly in the following situations:
If visibility is poor, e.g. due to insufficient illu‐
R
mination of the road, highly variable shade
conditions, rain, snow, fog, swirling dust or
heavy spray.
If there is glare, e.g. from oncoming traffic,
R
direct sunlight or reflections.
If the windscreen in the area of the multi‐
R
function camera is dirty, or if the camera is
misted up, damaged or covered.
If traffic signs are difficult to detect, e.g. due
R
to dirt, snow, ice, insufficient lighting or driv‐
ing too close to the vehicle in front, or

because they are covered, faded, damaged,
badly positioned or twisted.
Digital LED traffic signs may not be detected
R
correctly or at all due to technical factors,
such as transmission frequency.
If signs or the road layout is ambiguous, e.g.
R
traffic signs in roadworks, at exits and
ramps, in neighbouring lanes or parallel
roads.
If signs do not conform to the standard.
R
If signs or road layouts are specific to the
R
country, for example, at or beyond construc‐
tion sites.
After sharp turns and tight bends, when traf‐
R
fic signs are outside the camera's field of
vision.
If you overtake vehicles with traffic signs
R
which are affixed or attached to them.
If you are using transport equipment secured
R
with a trailer coupling, such as a bicycle rack,
the system may react to restrictions for car/
trailer combinations.
