Communication Watchdog

Communication Watchdog function provides the ability to turn off power supply output, if there is no
activity on any of the available communication interfaces (communication with a power supply is
lost). Watchdog function is enabled or disabled via Front Panel menu (refer to section 1.8) or
communication command SYSTem[:COMMunicate]:WATCHdog[:STATe] <bool> (refer to section
4.14.10). Timeout period for no activity over communication interfaces is user defined, in the range
of 1 to 3600 seconds, in steps of 1 second. It is set via Front Panel menu (refer to section 1.8) or
communication command SYSTem[:COMMunicate]:WATCHdog:TIMe <NRf+> (refer to section
4.14.10).
Timeout period for no activity starts from the first received command or query (including invalid
commands) over communication interfaces, following watchdog function enable. Switching
communication interface (i.e. USB to RS232) stops communication interface timeout period. It is
automatically re-initiated following first command or query (including invalid commands) received in
the selected interface. Same applies to timeout period value change.

Activated Communication Watchdog Timeout

When communication watchdog timeout period expires, power supply output shuts down. The
display shows WD FAULT. Red alarm LED blinks 1/2Hz frequency, error message is written into error
queue "342,Communication Watchdog Timeout;power supply address" and Questionable Group
(Fault Register) Condition bit 15 is set.
Communication watchdog timeout fault is cleared (reset) by OUTPut:PROTection:CLEar command
(refer to section 4.14.6), Power Switch recycle or AC recycle (Front Panel OUT Button does not
turn power supply output on under fault condition).
Watchdog function disable via Front Panel or communication clears watchdog fault.
1. Communication Watchdog function is available in all communication interfaces except LAN
built-in webserver (browsing webpages does not affect communication watchdog).
2. Communication Watchdog function is available in SCPI communication language only (not
available in GEN language).
3. Timeout period (WD.TIM) step is set by Coarse or Fine mode selection. In Coarse mode,
timeout field is updated in steps of 10 seconds. In Fine mode, timeout field is updated in step
of one second. Use the FINE button on the Front Panel to toggle between modes (Coarse or
Fine).
4. Front Panel buttons press does not affect watchdog timeout period.
5. Communication Watchdog function is available from firmware revision 02.105.
