Occupant safety
The driver's front airbag 1 deploys in
front of the steering wheel and the passen-
ger front airbag 2 deploys in front of and
above the dashboard.
The passenger front airbag 2 is only trig-
gered if the 56 indicator lamp on
the centre console ( page 82) is not lit.

Do not place heavy objects on the passen-
ger seat. If the system assumes the seat is occu-
pied because there are objects placed on it, the
restraint systems on the passenger side could be
triggered in the event of an accident and will
then need to be replaced.

Occupant classification in the passen-
ger seat
Occupants are classified by a weight
sensor. The passenger front airbag will not
be activated provided a specific weight
threshold is not exceeded. The relevant
activation status is indicated by the
56 indicator lamp. If the
56 indicator lamp is on, the pas-
senger front airbag is not activated.

The belt tensioner on the passenger side re-
mains active even if the passenger front airbag is
deactivated.

Risk of injury
To ensure that the occupant classification
system in the passenger seat functions cor-
rectly, you must never place objects (e.g. a
cushion) between the seat and the passen-
ger.
