The red coolant warning lamp
lights up while the engine is
running.

Possible cause/consequence
The coolant level is too low.
The coolant is too hot and the engine is
not being sufficiently cooled.
If the coolant level is correct, the radiator
fan may be faulty.
The coolant is too hot and the engine is
not being sufficiently cooled.
Suggested solutions
Stop as soon as possible and allow the en-
gine and the coolant to cool down.
Check the coolant level and top up the cool-
ant if necessary ( page 204).
If you are having to top up the coolant more
frequently than normal, have the coolant
system checked. Consult your PLM or a
qualified specialist workshop, e.g. an SLR
Service Centre.
If the coolant temperature is below 120 °C,
drive on to the next qualified specialist work-
shop, e.g. an SLR Service Centre or consult
your PLM.
Avoid heavy loads on the engine (e.g. driving
in mountainous terrain) and stop/start driv-
ing.
