The Clutch Drags.
POSSIBLE
CAUSES
1) Excessive pedal free travel.
2) Driven plate warped.
3) Roughness on driven plate linings.
FIAT· 850 PASSENGER CARS
REMEDIES
1) Adjus1.
2) Set level of driven plate, if possible.
Maximum plate
runout:
.016" (0.40
mm).
3) Rub linings with a metal brush or replace them, if neceliSary.
4} Driven plate linings improperly fitted, loose or
broken.

Replace linings.

Lining rivets should be peened with
avoid damage to pressure plate and
5) Driven plate hub dragging on clutch shaft.
6) Damaged clutch shaft splines prevent the driven
plate from sliding.

8) Pressure plate warped or otherwise damaged.
9) Clutch cover lamina incorrectly riveted.
10) Clutch throwout control cable bound in housing
or cable housing reaction points fluctuating in
operation.
Pedal Travel Adjustment.
The free travel ofclutch pedal is 29/32" to I" (23
to 25 nun). corresponding to a clearance of .019"
(2 rom) (fig. 160) between the throwout sleeve
and ring.
Should pedal free travel be less than specified
as a result of the wear of the driven plate
I
restore
the original operating conditions (.079" - 2 mm
clearance) by working on the adjustable rod (fig. 160)
of throwout yoke.
Prior to adjusting pedal travel check passage
grommet of cables and tubes on dash wall for
warpage.
A warped grommet prevents the clutch throwout
control cable housing from reacting regularly. thus
resulting in a faulty engagement of clutch.
To correct this condition renew the grommet.
5)
locate cause of trouble and remove it, if possible. Other-
wise replace the driven plate.
6) Replace the clutch shaft; also the driven plate, if required.
7)
Replace linings.
8) Replace clutch cover assembly.
9) Replace clutch cover assembly.
10) Check and locate fluctuating points and replace defective
parts.
