No-Charge Indicator Goes out at High Speed.
POSSIBLE
CAUSES
1) Field winding coils shorted.
2) Field winding grounded.
3) Number of field winding coils shorted.
4) Insulating film (grease, etc.) between voltage reg·
ulalor or current regulator points.
5) Generator drive belt loose.
REMEDIES
1) - 2) Check ohmic resistor (page 202):
-
renew winding;
- check points of voltage regulator and current regulator;
- If
points are oxidized or dirty, clean with a proper file;
• If
points are deteriorated, renew regulator unit.
3) On test bench, ascertain the presence of shorted coils;
-
renew armature;
-
check efficiency of regulator, as directed above;
- if necessary, renew brushes.
4) Examine points and clean, if necessary.
5) Check belt tension:
- adjust, or
- renew belt, as required.
No-Charge Indicator Lights up and Goes out Regularly.
LOW CHARGING RATE WITH DISCHARGED BATTERY
POSSIBLE
CAUSES
1)
Loose terminals, faulty wires.
2)
Faulty battery.
3)
Voltage regulator or current regulator adjusted
low.
4) Voltage regulator or current regulator points oxi-
dized or dirty.
5) Incidental resistor in circuit and windings of reg-
ulator.
REMEDIES
t) Check junction and continuity of wires:
- tighten terminal clamps;
- renew wires.
2)
Tesl with battery discharged but serviceable:
- renew battery.

Temporarily short circuit terminal

and raise generator speed:
- if output increases, trouble is due to one of conditions

3) Revise adjustment of voltage regulator and current
regulator.
4) Clean points by filing them with a proper file:
- renew regulator If points cannot be reconditioned.
5) Locate the cause In the regulator:
- correct, if possible;
- renew the unit.
