TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS OF RECHARGING SYSTEM
Indicator Light Fails to Go out.
DISCHARGED BATTERY AND NO RECHARGE AT ALL
POSSIBLE
CAUSES
1) Voltage regulator or current regulator contacts
strongly oxidized or dirty.
2) Windings

67» and «51 ») of regulator unsol-
dered or broken.
3) Cutout relay fails to close.
4) Open wire between terminals «61» of generator
and regulator.
5) Loose wire at terminal (( 51» of regulator.
6) Open field winding.
7)
Field winding grounded out.
8) Armature winding grounded or inne, paths open.
9) Armature commutator coated with an Insulating
film (greaslt, oxide, etc.).
10) Brushes worn or hardly bearing on commutator.
11) Faulty battery.
12) Voltage regulator adjusted low.
REMEDIES
1) Check regulator:
- clean points
with
a proper file;
- replace unit If points cannot be reconditioned.
2) Cheek and replace regulator by a new one.
3) Check and replace regulator by a new one.
4) Cheek and replace wire by a new one.
5) Cheek wire fastening at terminal ({ 51» and tighten lock
screw.
6) Locate «open» In field winding:
- if 'ault Is in connections, repair;
- if winding Is 'aulty, replace by a new one.
7)
Check field winding on test bench and replace It by a
new one.
8) Check armature on test bench and renew it.
9) Examine commutator:
- with a clean rag, clean commutator face;
- remove brush carbon dust from commutator bars.
10) Cheek brushes and replace by genuine ones.
11) Using an efficient battery, cheek whether the indicator light
goes out regularly and in the affirmative:
- renew the battery.
t2) Check and readjust voltage regulator.
