In North America, wire sizes (AWG / kcmil) are based on NEC/NFPA-70 for ampacities of thermoplastic-insulated (75ºC) copper conductors.
The wire sizes allow for an ampacity of 125% of the rated input and output amperes for motor branch-circuit conductors as specified in
NEC/NFPA-70.
