9.5 Load Balancing

Use t his screen t o configure wireless net work t raffic load balancing bet ween t he APs on your
net work. Click Configur a t ion > W ir e le ss > Loa d Ba la ncing t o access t his screen.

DESCRIPTION
Select t his t o enable load balancing on t he device.
Select a m ode by which load balancing is carried out .
Select By St a t ion N u m be r t o balance net work t raffic based on t he num ber of
specified st at ions connect t o an AP .
Select By Tr a ffic Le ve l t o balance net work t raffic based on t he volum e
generat ed by t he st at ions connect ed t o an AP .
Once t he t hreshold is crossed ( eit her t he m axim um st at ion num bers or wit h
net work t raffic) , t hen t he AP delays associat ion request and aut hent icat ion
request packet s from any new st at ion t hat at t em pt s t o m ake a connect ion.
This allows t he st at ion t o aut om at ically at t em pt t o connect t o anot her, less
burdened AP if one is available.
Ent er t he t hreshold num ber of st at ions at which an AP begins load balancing
it s connect ions.
Select t he t hreshold t raffic level at which t he AP begins load balancing it s
connect ions ( low, m edium , high) .
Select t his opt ion t o " kick" wireless client s connect ed t o t he AP when it
becom es overloaded. I f you do not enable t his opt ion, t hen t he AP sim ply
delays t he connect ion unt il it can afford t he bandwidt h it requires, or it shunt s
t he connect ion t o anot her AP wit hin it s broadcast radius.
The kick priorit y is det erm ined aut om at ically by t he device and is as follows:
I dle Tim e ou t - Devices t hat have been idle t he longest will be kicked first .
I f none of t he connect ed devices are idle, t hen t he priorit y shift s t o Sign a l
St r e n gt h .
Sign a l St r e n gt h - Devices wit h t he weakest signal st rengt h will be kicked
first .
Note: If you enable this function, you should ensure that there are multiple APs
within the broadcast radius that can accept any rejected or kicked
wireless clients; otherwise, a wireless client attempting to connect to an
overloaded AP will be kicked continuously and never be allowed to
connect.
