DESCRIPTION
Enabled int erfaces ( except for virt ual int erfaces) appear under Ava ila ble
I n t e r fa ce s. Select int erfaces for which t o capt ure packet s and click t he
right arrow but t on t o m ove t hem t o t he Ca pt u r e I nt e r fa ce s list . Use t he
[ Shift ] and/ or [ Ct rl] key t o select m ult iple obj ect s.
Select t he prot ocol of t raffic for which t o capt ure packet s. Select a n y t o
capt ure packet s for all t ypes of t raffic.
Select a host I P address obj ect for which t o capt ure packet s. Select a n y t o
capt ure packet s for all host s. Select Use r D e fin e d t o be able t o ent er an I P
address.
This field is configurable when you set t he I P Type t o a n y, t cp, or u dp.
Specify t he port num ber of t raffic t o capt ure.
Specify a m axim um size lim it in kilobyt es for t he t ot al com bined size of all
t he capt ure files on t he device, including any exist ing capt ure files and any
new capt ure files you generat e.
Note: If you have existing capture files you may need to set this size larger or
delete existing capture files.
The valid range is 1 t o 10000. The device st ops t he capt ure and generat es
t he capt ure file when eit her t he file reaches t his size or t he t im e period
specified in t he D ur a t ion field expires.
Set a t im e lim it in seconds for t he capt ure. The device st ops t he capt ure
and generat es t he capt ure file when eit her t his period of t im e has passed
or t he file reaches t he size specified in t he File Siz e field. 0 m eans t here is
no t im e lim it .
Specify t ext t o add t o t he end of t he file nam e ( before t he dot and filenam e
ext ension) t o help you ident ify t he packet capt ure files. Modifying t he file
suffix also avoids m aking new capt ure files t hat overwrit e exist ing files of
t he sam e nam e.
The file nam e form at is " int erface nam e- file suffix.cap", for exam ple " lan-
packet- capt ure.cap".
Specify t he m axim um num ber of byt es t o capt ure per packet . The device
aut om at ically t runcat es packet s t hat exceed t his size. As a result , when
you view t he packet capt ure files in a packet analyzer, t he act ual size of t he
packet s m ay be larger t han t he size of capt ured packet s.
Click t his but t on t o have t he device capt ure packet s according t o t he
set t ings configured in t his screen.
You can configure t he device while a packet capt ure is in progress alt hough
you cannot m odify t he packet capt ure set t ings.
The device's t hroughput or perform ance m ay be affect ed while a packet
capt ure is in progress.
Aft er t he device finishes t he capt ure it saves a separat e capt ure file for
each select ed int erface. The t ot al num ber of packet capt ure files t hat you
can save depends on t he file sizes and t he available flash st orage space.
Once t he flash st orage space is full, adding m ore packet capt ures will fail.

separat e capt ure file for each select ed int erface.
