Can Existing Office
Telephone Wires Be
Reused?
Is Any Additional
Equipment Required?
CAUTION: To avoid damage to the Business Telephone, do not connect
an telephone directly to a standard telephone line. Although the RJ11
connector for a traditional telephone fits into the Businesss Telephone's
RJ45 jack, the electrical interfaces are not compatible and the telephone
will not work.
You might be able to reuse the wires if they comply with10BASE-T
cabling specifications, but you will probably need to replace the
connectors. An Ethernet 10BASE-T device requires eight wires (four pairs)
connected to specific pins on RJ45 connectors, a task best left to a
qualified technician using the proper tools. If you already have a
10BASE-T LAN connecting the desktops, it might be simpler to ignore
existing telephone wires and connect the telephones to the LAN. Each
Business Telephone functions as an Ethernet hub, allowing you to
connect the computer's 10BASE-T network interface card directly to the
telephone.
You might need some of the following components:
If you are using standard or ISDN PRI Digital Line cards, you must have
I
a Channel Service Unit (CSU).
To configure the NBX 100, you need a computer equipped with a
I
browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer (Release 4.0 or higher) or
Netscape Navigator (Release 4.0 or higher), a 10BASE-T network
interface card, and a CD-ROM drive. You might also need to provide IP
configuration parameters for the system (IP address, subnet mask, and
default gateway).
Computers that use Computer Telephony Integration (CTI)
I
applications need an operating system that supports the Microsoft
TAPI 2.X standard, such as Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows
2000, or Windows NT, and a browser to download the TAPI-related
NBX 100 support software through NBX NetSet.
If you choose to install the NBX 100 in an equipment rack, you need a
I
standard 19-inch rack.
You might need 10BASE-T Ethernet cable and connectors to connect
I
the telephones to the hub. Each telephone includes a 10-foot cable
that you can use to connect the telephone to the computer or to the
office LAN outlet.
