Utilization

Use the following procedure to connect NBX 100 chassis using 10BASE2
connections.
"T" connectors, connect the 10BASE2 connector on the NCP to an NBX
100 Hub card, and then to the external Ethernet hubs or switches.
Always install a 50-ohm terminating resistance at each end of 10BASE2
coax cables you use to link chassis to chassis. The BNC ports on the NCP
and NBX 100 Hub card are not internally terminated.
If a chassis holds an NCP and a hub card, you can use the BNC connector
on either card to connect external hubs. You do not need to connect
cards within a chassis to each other with cables — the chassis backplane
connects the cards.
If you are using an NBX 100 Hub card, you can connect telephones
directly to the RJ45 ports on the hub card.
See Figure 37 for a typical two-chassis installation.

You can connect and disconnect telephone and LAN cables while the
NBX 100 is running, but you must turn off the power to remove or insert
components.
When installing multiple 4-port line cards and Digital line cards, 3Com
recommends that you use the MDI-X connector on the Digital line card to
isolate its traffic from the NBX 100 backplane. Figure 38 illustrates the
recommended configuration for installation of multiple line cards and
Digital line cards.
