The standard paper and optional paper trays have two springs [A] located below
the bottom plate. They also have two levers [B] located on the left and right ends of
the bottom plate, and two hooks [C] located at the back-end. When the paper tray
is out of the printer, the two hooks hold the bottom plate down. When held down,
the bottom plate is in its lowermost position.
When you push the paper tray into the printer, each protruding tab [E] pushes the
hooks [C]. Each hook then releases the bottom plate. The bottom plate is now lifted
by the springs [A].
When you pull the paper tray out of the printer, the triangular rails [D] located on
both sides push the levers [B], gradually down. Now the plate is at its lowermost
position. And as described above, the hooks [C] hold the bottom plate in this
position.
