6.2.4 REFERENCE EQUATION PROCESSING

The BCU creates separate linear equations for each color (and black) in order to
properly adjust the development bias for
each color (and for black):
1. The three black rectangular images

the ID sensor.
2. The BCU compares the signal levels from
the ID sensor and derives a linear
equation [L
].
K
3. The BCU calculates the black
development bias that is appropriate to
attain the target ID sensor level.
NOTE: The sensor level decreases as the
black-image density increases.
4. The BCU adjusts, via the high voltage
supply unit, the cyan development bias,
the magenta development bias, and the
yellow development bias.
NOTE: The diagram here shows the linear
equation of cyan [L
level increases as the cyan-image
density increases.

6.2.5 DEVELOPMENT BIAS ADJUSTMENT

Based on the determined equations, this machine adjusts the development bias of
each development roller. If the machine, for some reason cannot determine an
appropriate linear equation, a default voltage is supplied to the development roller
and the calculation will be attempted on the next cycle.
