6.14.3 SECURITY FEATURES

Service Set ID

The access point to correctly recognize the network nodes (network components)
uses the Service Set ID (SSID). A node needs to have the same SSID as the
access point's in order to be connected to the network.
If you do not specify an SSID, the printer will try to access any nearby access point.
You can specify an SSID in the printer using Web Device Monitor.

SSID in Ad hoc mode

When the SSID is used in ad hoc mode and no SSID is set, the printer will
automatically use the ASSID as the SSID. In this case, you must specify the
ASSID.
Some nodes can automatically change from ad hoc mode to infrastructure mode
when the same SSID is used in ad hoc mode and infrastructure mode. In this case,
to use the node only in ad hoc mode, use a specified SSID and for both
infrastructure mode, and ad hoc mode, use the ASSID.
NOTE: SSIDs when used in ad hoc mode are also called the Network Name.

Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP)

WEP is a coding system designed to protect the data in wireless transmission. To
decode the data, the same WEP key is required on the receiving side. There are
64-bit and 128-bit WEP keys. This machine supports the 64-bit WEP keys.
You can specify WEP keys from Web Device Monitor or via Telnet.

MAC Address

When infrastructure mode is used, MAC addresses can be also used to manage
access.
NOTE: Some types of access points do not support MAC addresses.
