6.1 How to Use the Troubleshooting Table
Table 6-1 suggests corrective actions for certain system problems. When
you have a problem, perform the following steps:
1.
Note the symptoms of the problem.
2. Check the symptom column in Table 6-1 for a match.
3. Check the conditions for that symptom in the Possible Cause column.
If more than one possible cause is given, check the possible causes and
their suggested solutions in the order listed.
4. Follow the advice in the Suggested Solution column.
5. See Section 6.10, Service Information, if the problem persists.
Table 6-1 : Basic Troubleshooting
Symptom
System Problems
System unit fan is off.
Power light is off.
Power-up display does not
show after 20 seconds.
Possible Cause
Power cord not connected.
Power socket may not be
working.
Terminal cable not con-
nected.
Power socket may not be
working.
The terminal fuse may
have blown.
Terminal settings may be
incorrect.
Suggested Solution
Check power cord connections at
both ends. Try a lamp that you
know works in the power socket.
Turn the system off for 10 sec-
onds and then turn it back
on.
Unplug the terminal
cable,
communications cable,
and printer. Then plug all ca-
bles back in and power up
the system.
Check that the terminal ca-
ble is plugged in at both ends.
Try a lamp that you know
works in the socket.
Check the brightness and con-
trast controls.
Replace blown
terminal fuse.
See the terminal documenta-
tion.
The terminal should be
set at 9600 baud,
8 bits,
and no parity.
